Lesson 7: Quality Quidditch Supplies

For all you current quiddy players or aspiring players this is the store for you.  If you hadn’t guessed, this store sells all things Quidditch related.  Here you can buy your broomstick, quaffles or bludgers if you needed some for practices, Hogwarts Quidditch robes, keeper gloves, and any other accessory one would need to help them play the game.  The shop also sells a Broomstick Servicing Kit, which includes a large jar of Fleetwood’s High-Finish Polish, a pair of silver Tail-Twig Clippers, a brass clip-on compass, and a Handbook of Do-It-Yourself Broomcare.

In the game of Quidditch, the faster your broom is the better and throughout the years, brooms have kept getting slicker and faster.  Many different broom companies make racing brooms.  In the early 1990’s the Nimbus Racing Broom Company sold the most popular racing broom, which also happened to be Harry Potter’s first broom; the Nimbus 2000.  The Nimbus Racing Broom Company was formed in 1967 by a wizard named Devlin Whitehorn.

There are a few other broomstick companies who are constantly trying to out sell one another.  The Cleansweep Broom Company was started by Barnaby, Bill, and Bob Ollerton in 1926.   This company was the first to design brooms for the sporting market.  They were also the first company to mass produce broomsticks.  They released their first broom, the Cleansweep One in 1926 and it was a huge success.  The company went on to have ten more Cleansweep models ending with the Cleansweep 11.

A huge rival of the Cleansweep Broom Company was the Comet Trading Company.  Basil Horton and Randolph Keitch founded the company in 1929.  They were both former played of the professional Quidditch team the Falmouth Falcons. The company released its first broom, the Comet 140 the same year it was founded.  These two wizards patented the Horton-Keitch Braking Charm, which helped the world of Quidditch immensely.

The Nimbus 2000 – This broom was the beginning of a very successful line of racing brooms.  The first model in the series came out in 1991.  At the time, it was considered the fasting racing broom ever.  The broom handle was made of mahogany.  The broom stayed at number one until its successor, the Nimbus 2001 came out.

The Nimbus 2001 -   Produced in August of 1992, this was the next racing broom released by the Nimbus Racing Broom Company.  It was faster than their previous broom the Nimbus 2000.  The entire Slytherin House Quidditch team at Hogwarts was outfitted with Nimbus 2001 the year of its release courtesy of Lucius Malfoy.  Some say it was in exchange for allowing Mr. Malfoy’s son Draco on the team as their new seeker.

Firebolt – In the time of its release, 1993, this was the new fastest broom around having a maximum speed of 150mph. It could reach top speed in ten seconds. This broomstick was such a sensation when it was released both the Bulgarian and Irish National Quidditch Teams used it during their game against one another in the 1994 Quidditch World Cup.  The broom was equipped with an unbreakable braking charm, which helps the broom stop faster.  It was made of ash wood and was treated with a diamond hard polish and the tail consisted of birch twigs.  It also boasts unbelievable precision and balance and hovers at a reasonable mounting height when the driver has let go.
